# AIOMetadata Setup

> Add rich catalogs and metadata to Stremio — Netflix rows, genre discovery, anime schedules, and more — using the Core Builds AIOMetadata configs.

AIOMetadata is a separate Stremio addon that handles the discovery side of your setup. Your Core Builds template controls which streams you see and how they're sorted — AIOMetadata controls what you browse, how titles look, and what catalog rows appear on your home screen.

  AIOMetadata and AIOStreams are completely independent. AIOMetadata never touches stream quality, debrid, or playback. Installing it won't change how your Core Builds template works.

## What You Get

Without AIOMetadata, Stremio's home screen shows Cinemeta's default rows — a single TMDB-backed source with no customisation and a known filter that hides most theatrical releases.

With the Core Builds config imported:

* **Home rows for every major service** — Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, Disney+, Apple TV+, Paramount+, Hulu — sorted by latest release
* **Genre rows** — Action, Comedy, Crime, Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Animated, Documentaries, Trending Kids, and more
* **Discovery lists** — Trakt Trending, Latest Digital Release, Seasonal picks, Must-See Modern Horror, Must-See Mindfuck
* **Browse by year, language, TVDB collections** — in the Discover section, not the home screen
* **Full anime catalog** (Full config only) — MAL Airing Now, AniList Trending, AniDB Latest Ended, Crunchyroll Latest, MAL decade catalogs (1980s–2020s)
* **TMDB metadata for movies, TVDB for series** — richer episode data, better artwork, more languages

## Pick a Config

Two Core Builds configs are available in the `AIOMetadata/` folder:

Both configs have the same movie and TV catalog set. The Full version adds 20 anime-specific catalogs and enables Crunchyroll.

## Pick an Instance

Use any public AIOMetadata instance — they all run the same addon, the config is stored per-user.

## Setup

  <Step title="Get your API keys">
    You need three free API keys before saving your config. Get them now so you have them ready.

    * **TMDB API Key** — [themoviedb.org/settings/api](https://www.themoviedb.org/settings/api) — free account, instant access
    * **TheTVDB API Key** — [thetvdb.com/dashboard/account/apikey](https://thetvdb.com/dashboard/account/apikey) — free account required
    * **MDBList API Key** — [mdblist.com/account](https://mdblist.com/account) — free tier, enables all the curated catalog rows

    Optional but recommended:

    * **RPDB Key** — use `t0-free-rpdb` for free rating badges on posters (no signup needed)
    * **Fanart.tv API Key** — [fanart.tv/get-an-api-key](https://fanart.tv/get-an-api-key/) — higher-quality artwork

    Right-click the link and choose **Save Link As** (Chrome/Edge) or **Download Linked File** (Safari/Firefox). Save it somewhere easy to find — you'll upload it in the next step.

    <Warning>
      Some browsers save the file as `...json.txt` instead of `...json`. If that happens, rename the file — remove the `.txt` at the end so it ends in `.json`. AIOMetadata will reject any file that isn't named with a `.json` extension.

  <Step title="Import the config">
    1. Go to your chosen instance's configure page (e.g. [aiometadata.elfhosted.com](https://aiometadata.elfhosted.com/configure/))
    2. Open the **Configuration** tab
    3. Click **Import Configuration** and select the JSON file you downloaded
    4. The catalog list will populate automatically

    Open the **Integrations** tab and paste in:

    * TMDB API Key
    * TheTVDB API Key
    * MDBList API Key
    * RPDB Key (use `t0-free-rpdb` for the free tier)
    * Fanart.tv key (optional)

    Click **Test** next to each key to confirm it's working before saving.

  <Step title="Save and install">
    1. Go back to the **Configuration** tab and click **Save Configuration**
    2. Set a password — write it down along with the UUID shown after saving
    3. Click **Install** → **Open in Stremio** (or copy the manifest URL for Stremio Web)
    4. Stremio will prompt you to install — confirm

## Notes

**Disable Cinemeta after installing.** Running both causes duplicate metadata and slower load times. Use [Cinebye](https://cinebye.pages.dev/) to deactivate Cinemeta without removing it — this lets Stremio fall back to it if AIOMetadata is unreachable.

**Anime and the Jikan API.** The public Jikan API (used for MyAnimeList data) is scheduled to shut down on October 1, 2026. After that date, MAL catalogs will stop working on hosted instances unless the instance operator self-hosts Jikan. AniList catalogs are unaffected.

**Backup your UUID and password.** There's no account recovery — if you lose them you'll need to create a fresh config from scratch.

**AI-powered search is off by default.** If you have a Google Gemini API key, enable it in the Search tab for natural-language catalog queries. Free tier is available via [Google AI Studio](https://aistudio.google.com/).
